Inside Game Pazzo, Chicagoland's massive gaming center, Feature ...

The all-in-one facility includes 60 game stations, a full bar, and a retail storefront. GamePro writer Andrew Hayward examines an unlikely shrine to gaming with a unique business model.

Imagine a veritable gaming paradise: one that packs in dozens of televisions and all the latest console and PC games, where you can meet up with friends -- or take down random locals in tournaments -- and spend the entire day pummeling the virtual competition without ever owning a piece of hardware or a single video game. It might sound too good to be true, but it's no dream scenario for Chicago area residents. Billed as the "world's largest gaming center," Game Pazzo sits rather innocuously within a large strip mall in Downers Grove, Illinois, a suburb located 25 miles west from downtown Chicago. Game Pazzo's looks are deceiving, as a quick glance through the windows reveals what appears to be a mild-mannered independent retail store ? but beyond those shelves of new and used console games lies something much larger and certainly unexpected from the sleepy shopping center.

The 13,000 square foot location houses about 60 rentable displays, ranging from Major League Gaming-approved 23-inch ASUS monitors up to 70-inch big screens along the right wall. Most are linked up to a console ? Game Pazzo features 30 Xbox 360 consoles (some with Kinect sensor bars), 10 PlayStation 3s, and nine Wii systems ? though the intimidatingly large space also includes a dedicated bank of PCs in one corner.

Game Pazzo also contains a dedicated stage for Rock Band jam sessions ? complete with flashing lights, a large projector screen, and two back-facing displays for the players ? as well as a private party room with its own projector screen and dedicated displays, a full bar flanked by leather couches and ESPN-tuned televisions, plus a snack stand serving up pizza, candy bars, and energy drinks. And don't forget about the retail storefront, which sells new console games and accessories, offers pre-orders for upcoming games, and buys and sells used games. It even sells some items that can't be accepted for trade-in credit (like a PSone with a few games) on consignment while taking a cut of the sale price.

With all of that under one roof, Game Pazzo certainly seems like a jack-of-all-trades combination of a massive multiplatform LAN center, a console-based arcade, and a Dave & Busters-like bar-meets-entertainment experience. Whether it's the master of any of those individual elements almost seems secondary to the fact that it's a single location seemingly primed to please just about any gamer who walks through the doors.

During a recent visit to the center, Game Pazzo founder Terry Newsome told me that it's all part of an effort to bring players together in a public, face-to-face way. "We're trying to create a socialization of gaming that's taking it out of the basement and living room, and create an environment where you can play and compete against your friends and show off in tournaments," he asserts.

It's also a business, of course, and the facility's diverse offerings provide many different opportunities for the business to prosper from its public space for video game players and their families. For a single player, it costs $7 per hour to use one of the stations, with additional players (for split-screen or alternating multiplayer games) charged just $5 per hour on the same display. It also costs one dollar to rent each console game from Game Pazzo's available library (which notably includes a dozen copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops), though users can bring their own games and play without the additional charge. Discounted all-day and off-peak rates are also available, along with an hourly charge for use of the stage. Additionally, subscribers to the premium Pazzo Plus club receive free and discounted hours over the course of the annual membership.

Game Pazzo first launched its storefront in November 2010 to coincide with the Black Ops launch and held a grand opening for the full center in February, though both were much later than planned; Newsome credits a dawdling landlord with pushing back the full launch from last fall, which he says hurt its ability to capitalize on last holiday's big releases. Despite the later-than-desired start, he says that Game Pazzo is doing okay but concedes that they "have a ways to go," as nearly any new small business would-- especially in the midst of an uncertain economy.

(AP) ? African Union troops fought house-to-house battles with militants Thursday to clear space for aid groups bringing in food supplies after intelligence reports showed insurgents reinforcing for a possible attack on squalid camps of famine refugees.

Heavy fighting erupted on the line of control between the government side and territory held by al-Shabab, Somalia's dominant militant group.

At least six people were killed. The AU troops also paid a heavy price, with one official saying 19 were wounded, and some of them were put on an ambulance jet bound for Kenya.

Somalia's famine is unfolding in the middle of a war zone, greatly complicating international efforts to prevent a wave of death. Some 2.2 million people live in an inaccessible famine zone controlled by the al-Qaida-linked al-Shabab.

Thursday's house-to-house fighting was only 2? miles (4 kilometers) from the nearest famine refugee camp, said Lt. Col. Paddy Ankunda, spokesman for the African Union peacekeeping force.

The offensive, he said, was to ensure the city streets are safe for aid groups to get humanitarian supplies to the more than 20,000 famine refugees that have arrived in Mogadishu this month alone.

"The agencies have been trying to deliver. Unfortunately, al-Shabab has been bent on ensuring this aid does not reach the people," Ankunda said. "This operation is about the delivery of humanitarian aid."

Al-Shabab's decision last week to rescind permission allowing aid groups to operate in areas under militant control has denied hundreds of thousands of Somalis access to food aid, he said.

Ankunda added that al-Shabab has sent 300 reinforcement fighters to Mogadishu in recent days.

Refugees have said militants already killed men who tried to flee famine-hit regions of Somalia with their families, saying it is better to starve than accept help from the West. African Union intelligence reports have indicated there could be attacks on Mogadishu's patchwork of ad-hoc refugee camps.

Thursday's battle was a "short, tactical offensive operation," Ankunda said.

"This action will further increase security ... and ensure that aid agencies can continue to operate to get vital supplies to internally displaced," he said.

Mogadishu resident Mohamed Hussein said al-Shabab fighters had withdrawn shortly after the offensive began.

"We have captured most of the bases we attacked ... and our troops are still chasing them," said Abdullahi Ali Anod, a Somali military commander.

Troops from the African Union Mission in Somalia, known as AMISOM, have been eroding al-Shabab's territory all year. Ankunda said the government now controls more than 60 percent of Mogadishu, up from around 40 percent at the beginning of the year.

AMISOM will keep humanitarian organizations informed of future operations to limit the impact on famine relief efforts, he said.

"AMISOM fully understands the need to restrain military operations while the aid agencies mount their humanitarian campaign. However, we are here to maintain stability in Mogadishu, and if we perceive a threat from the extremist insurgents, then it is our duty to protect and defend the most vulnerable from this threat," he said.

The World Food Program operations were being conducted normally, said spokeswoman Challiss McDonough.

"The airlift plans have not been affected at this point," she said. "Our humanitarian mission remains unaffected and unchanged."

Ali Muse, the head of Mogadishu's ambulance service, said his workers had collected the bodies of six dead and 20 wounded after Thursday's fighting.

A medical official at Mogadishu airport said wounded AU peacekeepers would be flown to Nairobi, the capital of neighboring Kenya, for treatment. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to talk with the press. An Associated Press reporter watched as three wounded soldiers were put in a small jet for the flight.

Ankunda said he could confirm only that two AU troops had been wounded.

The famine in the Horn of Africa threatens al-Shabab's hold on areas under its control, with the militants fearing that the disaster will drive away the people they tax and force into military service. The militants previously have blocked aid workers from helping those in need in Somalia, fearing that foreign assistance would undermine their control.

The WFP said Thursday it has a funding shortfall of $252 million for famine relief efforts in the Horn of Africa. The agency said it was encouraged by the response of some donor countries that have pledged $250 million to help.

The WFP estimates more than 11.3 million people need aid across drought-hit regions in East Africa. Most of those affected live in pastoral communities where herds have been wiped out because of a lack of water.

The drought has created a triangle of hunger where the borders of Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia meet. The U.N. believes tens of thousands already have died in Somalia in areas held by the Islamist rebels.

But the famine has particularly ravaged Somalia because many aid groups were banned from militant-controlled areas two years ago.

Somalia has been mired in conflict since 1991 when longtime dictator Siad Barre was overthrown by warlords who then turned on each other. Islamist militants led by al-Shabab are trying to overthrow the weak U.N.-backed government that is being propped up by about 9,000 AU peacekeepers from Uganda and Burundi.

Students Invited to Join Sport Clubs | The Rec Well Wire

Sport clubs are an integral part of Recreation and Wellness for BGSU students.? Freshmen are invited to a special Welcome Fair on Wednesday, August 24, where a representative from each sport club is on hand for students to learn more about what their respective club offers.? Other students can attend Campus Fest on September 1 and receive information on sport clubs.

There are currently twenty-three active sport club teams on campus including baseball, bowling, curling, cycling, dodgeball, equestrian, gymnastics, men?s ice hockey, men?s lacrosse, men?s rugby, women?s rugby, sailing, men?s soccer, women?s soccer, women?s softball, tennis, track and field, men?s ultimate Frisbee, men?s and women?s swimming, men?s volleyball, women?s volleyball, water polo and wrestling.

?More than 500 students are involved annually in sport clubs over the last couple years,? said Scott Sehmann, assistant director ? intramurals/sport clubs. ?Sport club teams are equally as large as the varsity teams.? They have all been thriving lately and we are pretty happy with the growth.?? ??

A student participates in sport clubs for a variety of reasons.? Some students, who were very good high school athletes, want to continue playing their sport, but not at the varsity level.? They like the competitiveness and want to continue working out.? A sport club gives students an opportunity to compete against other universities in organized leagues with officials, in a structured program, with practice only two or three days a week.? Sport clubs? athletic level is in between intramurals (more recreational and little practice) and varsity sports in athletic commitment. ?Students who participate in a club sport benefit by gaining leadership and organizational skills. They have more structure to their lives, have an opportunity to travel and meet students from other universities. These athletes continue to stay fit, are in shape and have a competitive spirit.

There are many popular sport clubs. ?Men?s rugby is one of the popular sport clubs which placed third in the nation this year,? said Sehmann.? ?The equestrian team is three years old and growing with around fifty participants. Baseball has a good size as well.?

All sport clubs are student organizations and must be registered with the Office of Campus Activities.? Required forms must also be completed with the Department of Recreation and Wellness. To be eligible for membership, an undergraduate student must be enrolled in at least 10-credit hours or a graduate/non-traditional student must be enrolled in 6-credit hours.? Each club needs at least ten active members with a faculty or staff advisor. ?Existing clubs may not be duplicated.?? However, if a student would like to organize a new sport club, he/she must petition to become a student organization.? Based on the activity, competitiveness and safety level, a decision is made to be an acceptable new sport club.

Sehmann cautions all sport club teams regarding the importance of leadership within the club.? The leadership team comprising of the president, vice president, treasurer, safety coordinator and travel trip leader must continually bring in new and younger students into the program and train those individuals to carry on the program tradition. ?The annual change in leadership roles is necessary for the success of the sport club organization.??

For additional information see the Recreation and Wellness Resource Guide, visit www.bgsu.edu/recwell, or contact Scott Sehmann at sehmans@bgsu.edu or 419-372-2464.

Norwegian police under scrutiny after terror attacks (The Christian Science Monitor)

Oslo, Norway ? Norway?s terrorist attacks have placed Oslo's police force and its tactics under the microscope, and today officials defended their reaction time to the shooting spree on the island of Utoya, saying the circumstances of Friday?s assaults presented a genuine challenge to the authorities.

It took police more than an hour to reach the island after the first emergency call, alerting authorities that the accused shooter, Anders Behring Breivik, was firing on people at a youth camp organized by the ruling Labor party. By the time he was apprehended, at least 68 people were dead. Mr. Breivik is also charged with detonating a bomb outside the Norwegian prime minister's office hours before the shooting spree. At least eight people were killed in the explosion.

The police response to Utoya has drawn sharp criticism from some victims' family members and has many calling for Norwegian police to be better equipped to handle terrorist attacks, even though the country is considered one of the safest in the world. This is a nation where police are mostly unarmed, politicians rarely need security, and violent crime is uncommon.

RELATED: Norway ponders impact of terror attacks

But the shocking attacks, which Mr. Breivik has admitted to carrying out, could compel law enforcement here to begin reevaluating whether it's prepared enough for the worst-case scenarios.

Norway?s Justice Minister Knut Storberget, however, has called the police?s handling of the situation ?excellent."

One of the key issues that limited police response time to Utoya was lack of fast transportation. Oslo police have only one helicopter, and the crew that operates it was on vacation at the time of the attack. Police underscored, however, the helicopter is used for observation or search missions and is unsuitable for the task that was at hand.

?I don?t think this could have gone faster. I can?t see how that could be possible within this distance and under this condition,? said Johan Fredricksen, chief of staff for Oslo police. ?We will always try to be better but I can?t see how we could have done this faster.?

Police, dealing with the massive car bomb explosion in the capital, drove 24 miles to the island and commandeered recreational boats to cross the lake, with one overloaded boat taking on water, forcing it to return to shore. Once they arrived on the island at 6:25 p.m., police said they arrested Breivik, who had ammunition left over for his pistol and automatic rifle, within two minutes.

Thirty officers are still on the island collecting evidence. Barricades around the blast site in downtown Oslo will remain up for another two weeks, said Mr. Fredricksen, though he said there is no longer a need for heightened security in the capital.

Breivik remains confined in isolated custody today and will do so for the next eight weeks as police continue their investigation. He faces terrorism charges and up to 21 years in prison if convicted, although the prison term could be extended if he's still considered a threat.

A sense of normalcy is beginning to return to Oslo as passersby continue to leave roses and candles at impromptu memorials throughout the city. At a memorial service outside City Hall on Monday night, Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg praised the country for its unity in the face of tragedy.

?Norway will pass the test. Evil can kill individuals, but it can never defeat a whole people,? he said.

Oslo police also will begin posting on its website the names of the confirmed 76 dead starting tonight, Oslo?s deputy police chief Sveinung Sponheim said. Norwegian media have already identified several of the victims from Utoya, who range in age from 14 to 51 years old.

Artist Serge Hamad Puts On An Art Show For Human Rights In Iran

The campaign for human rights in Iran has gone visual with a new show in Los Angeles which explores the lives of marginalized Iranians. The show is product of war photographer and artist Serge Hamad, who wants to use his work to aid global human rights efforts, and the opening will feature a presentation from a member of the International Campaign for Human Rights in Iran (ICHRI).

Serge Hamad is supporting the cause of Iranians by voluntarily donating all of the proceeds from his show to the ICHRI. The work in the show is a combination of photography and graphic images to explore social persecution, marginalization and censorship in modern Iran. Many of those affected are women, filmmakers and sexual minorities.

An additional portion of the exhibit is an installation called "Take a Stand" which allows attendees to be part of a set of portraits that will be used to create compilations that include prominent Iranian and international figures. They can then purchase customized prints of their own compilation.

Serge Hamad started as a war photographer at a young age and in the last two years he has been working to promote human rights through his work. The exhibit opens July 30th at the Seyhoun Gallery in West Hollywood and close on August 4th. If you want to attend RSVP here on Facebook.

Jay Larsen: Better video communication helps build relationships ...

Businesses thrive on trusting relationships and efficient, clear communications. this comes from time invested in a relationship, which often includes traveling to meet face-to-face with the customer.

Traveling for business is time-consuming and expensive. Flying with post-9/11 security precautions takes far longer than it used to, and with fuel prices, every mode of transportation is much more expensive than before. Unfortunately, in the business world, traveling to meet new clients and network with team members is a necessity many have to trudge through.

Or at least it used to be.

With the aid of technology such as video conferencing systems emerging in the workplace, there is no reason professionals cannot get personal from a distance while reducing company costs, travel time and one?s personal carbon footprint and frustration.

Video conferencing has finally reached the speed of business.

Business meetings have subtleties that are missed in email, phone calls or even some previous video conferencing solutions. Stalled video feeds, quiet conference calls or tone mismanagement can lead to a confused group of clientele.

However, video conferencing technology has advanced to a point that users are able to share detailed illustrations, video, designs, documents and objects with others in real time with high-definition feeds.

Hewlett-Packard, Cisco and Polycom all have video conferencing systems to collaborate on meetings. they allow instant access with streaming high-definition video from anywhere in the world where an Internet connection is available. they offer a face-to-face experience with easily understandable user instruction and scalable options for an individual or an entire company.

These video conferencing systems are affordable and are similar to Skype but offer more robust video solutions.

The new HP products are geared toward small and medium-sized businesses. a company of 100 employees can have everyone connected via desktop software, two room-based systems and five executive desktops for less than $90,000, according to the company. Distant participants on notebooks or desktops see crisp images similar in quality to those in HP?s Halo video-conferencing rooms, but for a whole lot less than the cost of installing a room ? at least $250,000, plus about $15,000 a month for management.

This in-person relationship-building software used to be available only to elite businesses with big budgets. however, it?s now something pre-installed on computers and used by many as a way of keeping in touch with family across the country. thus, standard systems come with price tags suitable for any business.

The advancements in video-conferencing systems have been streamlined into a simple process requiring little of users because of the power of the software.

Communicating the right schedule, time zone and number of participants and booking a space ? if necessary ? are the only steps required of users. Software of this magnitude will help build relationships across city lines, state borders and even countries, bringing more opportunity to relatively isolated locations such as Idaho.

FDA cites higher death risk in Sanofi drug study (AP)

WASHINGTON ? Federal health regulators are warning doctors that a heart drug from Sanofi was associated with fatal heart problems in a recently halted company study.

The Food and Drug Administration reported Thursday that Sanofi halted a trial of its drug Multaq after there were twice as many heart attacks, strokes and deaths among patients taking the drug compared with patients taking placebo.

Among more than 3,000 patients studied, there were 32 cardiovascular deaths in the Multaq group compared with 14 in the placebo group.

The study involved patients older than 65 with a permanent heart condition known as atrial fibrillation which causes the heart's chambers to pump out of sync. The FDA approved the drug in 2009 for the short-term form of the condition and a related condition known as atrial flutter. However, doctors routinely prescribe drugs for uses other than those listed on the label.

About 241,000 U.S. patients had received a prescription for the twice-a-day pill as of last month.

The FDA said it is still reviewing the trial data and advises patients taking Multaq to talk with their doctor.

Sanofi, based in Paris, said in a statement it still considers the drug beneficial to patients.

"It is important that Multaq only be used in patients with non-permanent atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter, as per the current U.S. label," a company spokesman said in an email.

The European Medicines Agency is also reviewing the safety of Multaq.

In midday trading, U.S.-listed shares of Sanofi added 5 cents to $39.75.

Bright Wishes Book Reviews: Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins (4 Stars)

Mockingjay (The Hunger Games, #3)
Young Katniss Everdeen has survived the dreaded Hunger Games not once, but twice, but even now she can find no relief. In fact, the dangers seem to be escalating: President Snow has declared an all-out war on Katniss, her family, her friends, and all the oppressed people of District 12. The thrill-packed final installment of Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games trilogy will keep young hearts pounding.
Rating: 4 StarsThe last book of this series was great, but I did expect it to be better. To me, I felt like the beginning was very slow and I just couldn't get into it until almost halfway through. The main reason I like reading Young Adult literature is because of the?relationships. ?Now, I know that not every book needs that damsel in distress and Katniss is amazing?and so strong at who she is, but I really felt like this book was more based on the politics of Panem and the Capitol instead of rebuiling the relationship with the ones she loves, when it came down to it in the end, I feel the ending was very quick and rushed. ?Aside from all of that, I did come to terms with what the ending was and there were a very twists to the story that really got my attention. After getting through a certain point in the book, I just couldn't put it down!!?

UK deputy PM: Chance to clean up press-gov't ties (AP)

LONDON ? Britain's deputy prime minister says the tabloid phone hacking scandal has created a once-in-a-generation chance to clean up murky relations among media, police and politicians.

Nick Clegg also defended Prime Minister David Cameron at a news conference Tuesday over questions about his private discussions with executives of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp.

A day earlier, Cameron told the House of Commons he had no "inappropriate" discussions about News Corp.'s bid, now dropped, to take full control of British Sky Broadcasting.

Clegg says he hoped that a wide-ranging judicial inquiry would be the vehicle to "clean up the murky practices and dodgy relationships which have taken root at the very heart of the British establishment."

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

LONDON (AP) ? Prime Minister David Cameron dragged his political foes into Britain's phone-hacking scandal at a raucous session of Parliament on Wednesday, distancing himself from a former aide at the heart of the allegations and denying his staff tried to thwart police investigations.

Cameron, who flew back from Africa early for the emergency session, defended his decision to hire former News of the World editor Andy Coulson as his communications chief, saying Coulson's work in government had been untarnished.

Coulson was arrested this month in connection with allegations that reporters at the tabloid intercepted voice mails of celebrities and crime victims to get scoops. Cameron reminded lawmakers that Coulson has yet to be found guilty of anything.

But the prime minister also made his strongest effort yet to distance himself from his former aide.

"With 20/20 hindsight, and all that has followed, I would not have offered him the job, and I expect that he wouldn't have taken it," Cameron told lawmakers who packed the House of Commons. "You live and you learn, and believe you me, I have learnt."

Cameron then turned the spotlight on the Labour Party, saying that most British politicians had tried to court media baron Rupert Murdoch ? whose News Corp. owned the defunct News of the World and still owns three other British newspapers.

The prime minister warned that Labour should be careful before casting stones about hiring choices. Former Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair's communications director, Alastair Campbell, was accused of exaggerating government documents in the lead-up to the Iraq war, and the party's former special adviser Damian McBride quit amid allegations he circulated scurrilous rumors about political opponents.

"You've still got Tom Baldwin working in your office!" Cameron exclaimed, referring to Labour's political strategist who has been accused of illegally obtaining private banking information in 1999 while working as a journalist for The Times, another Murdoch paper. Baldwin could not be reached for comment.

Labour was in power when the phone hacking scandal broke in 2005 over a News of the World story about Prince William's knee injury ? information that royal household staff believed could have only come from illegal voicemail intercepts. The scandal has since embroiled top politicians, police and journalists.

A parliamentary committee investigating the widening scandal released a scathing report on Wednesday accusing Murdoch companies of "deliberately trying to thwart a criminal investigation" into the allegations and lambasting the London Metropolitan police for its failed inquiry.

"We deplore the response of News International to the original investigation into hacking," said the Home Affairs committee, which has been grilling police officials about their decision not to reopen the hacking investigation in 2009 when other allegations came to light.

And it seems more is yet to come.

Only some 200 of the nearly 4,000 people whose information is believed to have been targeted have been notified by police, and detectives have started a separate inquiry into whether other news organizations over the years have breached data privacy laws.

Scotland Yard said Wednesday it was increasing the number of staff assigned to the phone-hacking inquiry from 45 to 60 to deal with a surge of inquiries and requests for assistance from the public and lawyers.

Among the evidence police want to examine are emails and other documents from an internal investigation into hacking conducted in 2007 by a law firm hired by News International, the British newspaper division of Murdoch's global News Corp. The firm, Harbottle and Lewis, had maintained client confidentiality meant it could not hand over the file.

On Wednesday, News International said it instructed Harbottle and Lewis to answer questions from police and lawmakers.

Murdoch flew out of London on Wednesday, a day after he and his son James were quizzed for three hours by a parliamentary committee investigating wrongdoing by the News of the World.

The embattled mogul got some good news when a billionaire Saudi prince who controls the biggest share of News Corp. outside the Murdoch family voiced his support.

Prince Alwaleed bin Talal commended Rupert and James Murdoch for tackling problems at the company and for cooperating with investigators. Alwaleed, who controls 7 percent of News Corp., said the company remains "a valuable and long term investment."

Already 10 people have been arrested, including Coulson, who was editor at News of the World when royal reporter Clive Goodman and private investigator Glenn Mulcaire were arrested and jailed in 2007 in connection with the Prince William story.

Police dropped their investigation into the hacking claims in 2007 once the men were prosecuted, and Coulson quit the paper shortly after. It was then that Cameron, who was Conservative opposition leader at the time, hired him as his communications chief.

Police reopened the hacking investigation in January and both police and News Corp. now acknowledge hacking was far more widespread than previously admitted.

The scandal exploded two weeks ago when it emerged that News of the World had intercepted ? and deleted ? the voicemail messages of Milly Dowler, a 13-year-old who was kidnapped in 2002 and later found murdered.

The uproar forced Murdoch to shut the 168-year-old News of the World and abandon a bid to take control of lucrative British Sky Broadcasting, raising questions of whether police accepted bribes to give reporters' tips and highlighting the way politicians sought to curry favor with the News Corp. media empire.

Cameron said Wednesday that a special panel would be set up to investigate practices at other news organizations and the relationship among media organizations, politicians and police.

"The problem has been taking place over many years ? the problem is for both our main parties and the problem is one the public expect us to stop playing with and to rise to the occasion and deal with it for the good of the country," Cameron said.

He adamantly denied, however, that anyone on his staff ever tried to influence the hacking investigation.

"To risk any perception that No. 10 (Downing Street) was seeking to influence a sensitive police investigation in any way would have been completely wrong," he said.

Cameron has acknowledged meeting with News Corp. executives more than two dozen times between May 2010 and this month, including several meetings with Rebekah Brooks, a News International executive who has been arrested in the scandal. A friend and neighbor of Cameron's, Brooks attended his birthday party in October.

Cameron told lawmakers he was not involved in the government's decision to approve the BSkyB takeover and "I never had one inappropriate conversation" with Brooks.

Cameron's meetings with News Corp. executives were criticized in Parliament by Labour leader Ed Miliband, who said Cameron had made a "catastrophic error of judgment" in hiring Coulson.

Miliband also reminded Cameron that Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg had warned against bringing Coulson into Downing Street. Clegg sat stone-faced during much of Wednesday's loud and rowdy session.

News Corp. announced Wednesday that it had stopped payments to cover Mulcaire's legal expenses, a day after Murdoch told lawmakers in a special parliamentary committee hearing that he would seek to stop the payments. Mulcaire's lawyer, Sarah Webb, declined to comment on the development.

The saga captivated audiences from America to Murdoch's native Australia on Tuesday, as Murdoch endured a three-hour grilling by U.K. lawmakers ? interrupted by a shaving cream-pie attack from a protester.

The media baron said he had known nothing of allegations that staff at News of the World hacked into cell phones and bribed police to get information on celebrities, politicians and crime victims.

He also said he had been humbled by the allegations and apologized for the "horrible invasions" of privacy.

Police on Wednesday charged Jonathan May-Bowles, 26, with the shaving cream attack.

A judge, meanwhile, awarded actor Hugh Grant ? one of the most prominent celebrity critics of the Murdoch empire ? the right to see whether he was one of the targeted celebrities. Others who allegedly had phones hacked include Sienna Miller and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Libyan rebels claim control of Brega (AFP)

BENGHAZI, Libya (AFP) ? Libya's rebels claimed control of Brega on Monday, as most pro-Kadhafi troops retreated westward leaving around 150-200 loyalist fighters pinned down inside the oil town, a spokesman said.

"The bulk of (Moamer) Kadhafi's forces have retreated to Ras Lanuf," rebel spokesman Shamsiddin Abdulmolah told AFP, referring to another oil hub some 50 kilometres (32 miles) to the west.

Abdulmolah added that the remnants of Kadhafi's troops were holed up among industrial facilities in Brega with supplies dwindling.

"Their food and water supplies are cut and they now will not be able to sleep," said Abdulmolah as the latest battle for Brega entered its fifth day.

"It's a matter of time before they come to their senses, we hope to prevent some bloodshed."

Taking the town would be a major rebel victory, boosting morale and recapturing infrastructure vital to Libya's economic future.

Brega is a major centre for channelling the pipelines of the oil-rich Sirte Basin to the rest of the world.

Fighters on the ground reported no signs so far that those oil installations have been set on fire or sabotaged, but Abdulmolah said the area has been heavily mined.

Libya's warring armies have been fighting over Brega since Thursday when rebel forces launched a three-pronged attack on the town which has switched hands many times, but which had been under Kadhafi control since April.

Rebel troops approached from the northeast, east and southeast, surrounding Kadhafi's forces and reaching the outskirts of the city's eastern-most tip on Friday before pulling back to allow for NATO bombardments.

Since then it has been a steady advance.

Nestled on the Gulf of Sirte, Brega is made up of three areas, a residential area in the east, a major oil facility in the west and an old town in between.

After a series of military gains were washed away by hasty and badly coordinated advances, rebel commanders were anxious to make sure they have a unified offensive line before their final push.

But the complete occupation of Brega may still have to wait.

"Most of the troops going in right now are anti-mine teams," said Abdulmolah. "We have found an extraordinary number of anti-personnel mines."

He added that the effort to clear the ordnance is being hampered by missile attacks from the village of Bishr around 20 kilometres (13 miles) away.

The rebels hope that a phalanx of their fighters which swept past Brega from the south will soon take out those positions.

"We hope to take Bishr today," said Abdulmolah.

The victory has come at a price. Around 15 rebel fighters have been killed and 274 wounded since the battle began.

The toll on Kadhafi's troops is not known.

In its latest operational update on Monday, NATO reported hitting "nine armed vehicles, two armoured fighting vehicles and a command and control node" in the Brega area.

Southwest of Tripoli, Kadhafi's forces fired rockets at rebel positions in Gualish in the Nafusa Mountains and around Bir Ayad, a key junction on the road to Tripoli in the plains below, rebel commanders said.

The rebels responded with rocket fire against the loyalist-held hill town of Asabah, an AFP correspondent reported.

British Prime Minister David Cameron sought to bridge the gap with South African President Jacob Zuma over the conflict in Libya in talks in Pretoria.

Zuma has accused NATO of overstepping its UN mandate to impose a no-fly zone over Libya, although South Africa voted for the UN resolution that the alliance uses to justify its bombing campaign.

"It is no secret that we have disagreed on some aspects of how to respond to the violence in Libya," Cameron said.

"But we are agreed in the immediate imperative -- that all sides must take every effort to avoid the loss of civilian life," he added.

"And we agree on the ultimate destination that Kadhafi must step aside to allow the people of Libya to decide their own future.

"The president believes that is the outcome of a political process. I believe for a political process to work, this has to be the starting point."

Cameron has called for Kadhafi to step down. South Africa has refused to join in that call, saying the decision should be the outcome of negotiations among the warring parties, not a precondition as demanded by the rebels.

"What happens to Kadhafi must be decided by the Libyan people. You need to negotiate how, why and where he must go," Zuma said.

SEO Search Analytics on Local Small Business Marketing

A newly built website is expected to be search engine optimized. For a couple of days or weeks, it stays on the top rank of search engine results page.? But more and more websites are being developed and optimized every day. It comes to an extent that when a website ages, it decreases in rank. This is a disappointing fact to website owners.

?

Search analytics aim to address this concern. With search analytics, search engine statistics are evaluated and appraised to maintain the page ranking of the site. Search analytics is the study of the market trend volume to improve search engine marketing and search engine optimization. It is also done through reverse searching to study the keywords of the competition.

?

Keyword monitoring is part of search analytics. Through this, the website owners and SEO experts maintaining the site sort out the keywords which are effective and which are not. Because local business and local market colloquialism also advances, new keywords are added. Advertisement history and spending statistics, together with website comparisons, are also included in search analytics.

?

In search analytics, data gathering is very important. There are many ways of collecting relevant data although it depends on certain geographic locations. Global search engines such as Google provide Google Trends and Google Insights from which data can be gathered. Data can also be collected from ISP?s, phoning home software, and scraping search engines. These accumulated data can be of extreme help in local SEO marketing analysis.

?

Data collection for local SEO marketing search analytics must be observed with accuracy. Inaccurate data could lead to wrong data analysis and inappropriate SEO solutions. Scraping keywords can result to highly accurate results in unpaid, organic results. But for paid results, it might not always be. Accuracy of data is influenced by several external factors such as data collection method, time of data gathering and the type of service used.

?

Search analytics also help in understanding the local small business marketing conditions. With search analytics, the popularity of products and services can be gauged. The result of this analysis shows the overall performance of SEO marketing.
