U.S. says Myanmar move on prison terms insufficient (Reuters)
WASHINGTON (Reuters) ? The United States on Tuesday dismissed Myanmar's decision to cut prison terms, saying it fell short of the reform necessary to prompt Washington to further normalize ties.
"Its not a step of the magnitude that we would be interested in matching," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told a news briefing.
Myanmar state media said on Monday that President Thein Sein had commuted death sentences to life in prison and cut terms served by other prisoners in a gesture to mark Independence Day on January 4, when the country formerly known as Burma marks its 1948 independence from British rule.
The presidential order did not appear to cover political prisoners, which western governments including the United States say should be released before they can lift economic sanctions imposed during a period of military rule.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited Myanmar in December and said Washington could further open to the country if its new civilian government undertook greater reforms including a release of political prisoners and greater democratic openness.
But Nuland said on Tuesday that Washington, like the rest of the international community, wanted to see all political prisoners freed.
"We wanted to see this as soon as possible. We didn't set any timeline on it, but we made clear that it was one of the vital steps before which it would be difficult for us to make significantly more steps towards normalization on our own side."
U.S. officials say there are about 1,000 political prisoners still behind bars in Myanmar, although some watchdog groups put the number lower.
Myanmar in October released around 230 political prisoners, one of a series of steps that prompted President Barack Obama to endorse tentative moves to open to the country after decades of diplomatic isolation.

Ford Canada holds top sales spot in 2011
Ford Motor Co. of Canada Ltd. held onto top spot in the auto sales market in Canada in 2011, the auto maker said Wednesday.
Ford?s sales rose 3 per cent to 275,978 from 267,974 in 2010.
It?s the second straight year Ford has captured the sales crown in Canada, surpassing long-time leader General Motors of Canada Ltd.

Honda Canada Inc. said its compact Civic car retained its spot as the top-selling passenger car in Canada with sales of 55,090 units last year.
Shortages caused by the March 11 earthquake in Japan and floods in Thailand last fall caused sales to drop 12 per cent to 123,121 vehicles.
Meanwhile, Chrysler Canada Inc. said its vehicle sales jumped 13 per cent last year from 2010 levels with its sales to retail customers at their highest level since 2002.
Canadians bought 230,992 Chrysler vehicles in 2011, compared with 204,955 a year earlier. December sales rose 2 per cent.
Volkswagen Canada Inc. posted a record year for sales with a 16 per cent jump on 2010, which was the previous high water mark.
In the United States, Chrysler reported a 37 per cent rise in U.S. new-vehicle sales in December as the U.S. auto maker finished the year with strong gains thanks to a refreshed lineup of cars and trucks.
Chrysler, controlled by Fiat, reported December U.S. sales of 138,019 new vehicles, compared with 100,702 a year earlier. The results were in line with forecasts by industry research firms Edmunds.com and TrueCar.com.
?They?ve done a remarkable job sprucing up their vehicles,? said Edmunds analyst Michelle Krebs, adding Chrysler was coming off a low base of sales in 2010.
Ms. Krebs credited last year?s halftime television ad during pro football?s Super Bowl championship, featuring rapper Eminem, for raising the brand?s image with consumers.
For the year, sales at Chrysler finished up 26 per cent, and the automaker said it gained 1.3 percentage points of market share.
Ford Motor Co.?s U.S. sales rose 11 per cent in 2011 thanks to strong demand for its trucks and SUVs.
Ford sold 2.1 million vehicles last year, a sign of the industry's continuing recovery. It was the first time the Ford brand has passed the 2 million mark since before the recession in 2007.
Strong sellers included the new Ford Explorer SUV, which more than doubled sales from 2010. The Escape small SUV and Ranger small pickup also posted big increases.
General Motors Co.?s GM-N U.S. sales rose 13 per cent last year as the company recovered from its financial disaster in 2009.
GM sold just over 2.5 million new cars and trucks in the U.S. Its December sales rose nearly 5 per cent from a year earlier.

Need extra battery Sony NEX-5N
Cutting $30 off of a battery for a $700 camera seems like false economy to me...but that's just my 2? 
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I've watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate.
All those moments would be lost in time, like tears in the rain...if I hadn't had my camera!

If $48 is too much for a genuine NP-FW50, then stick with a reasonably well-known brand like Opteka ($10) or Lenmar ($15).
Since the Sony batteries use embedded circuitry to drive the battery level indicator, the knock-offs may or may not give accurate levels.
