(AP) ? Ben Roethlisberger joked that the broken thumb on his throwing hand was "still attached" after Sunday night's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are still tied for lead in the AFC North because of it.

Roethlisberger threw a short touchdown pass to Weslye Saunders in the first half, and the Steelers took advantage of four turnovers by Chiefs quarterback Tyler Palko in a 13-9 victory that allowed them to keep pace with Baltimore atop their loaded division.

"We're happy with the win," Roethlisberger said.

He finished 21 of 31 for 193 yards and an interception for the Steelers (8-3), whose defense lost All-Pro safety Troy Polamalu to a head injury in the first quarter yet still kept the bumbling Chiefs (4-7) from scoring a touchdown. Kansas City hasn't reached the end zone since playing Denver three weeks ago, a span of 45 offensive drives ? including the final one Sunday night.

The Chiefs marched across midfield to the Pittsburgh 37 when Palko dropped back to pass. He was looking for Dwayne Bowe but threw it high and behind him, and Keenan Lewis hauled in the interception with 29 seconds left to seal the outcome.

"Stepped up one more time for us," Roethlisberger said. "They did a great job all day.

Palko, making his second consecutive start in place of the injured Matt Cassel, also fumbled a snap and threw interceptions to Ike Taylor and Ryan Mundy on consecutive plays in the first half.

He fared little better than he did last week against New England, when he tossed three picks in his first NFL start. Palko finished 18 of 28 for 167 yards in what was likely his last chance.

The Chiefs claimed former Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton off waivers on Wednesday with the intention of having him compete with Palko for the starting job. Orton didn't arrive in town until Friday, though, and he was inactive Sunday night after participating in only one practice.

"He'll have a much better chance this week to compete, and like I said, Tyler is the starter, but whatever position we say, if someone gives us a better chance to win, that's the guideline we generally follow," Chiefs coach Todd Haley said.

Kansas City led 3-0 in the second quarter when Palko's first interception, which Taylor returned to the Chiefs 8, resulted in a 21-yard field goal by the Steelers' Shaun Suisham.

The second pick was returned by Mundy, who had taken over at safety for Polamalu, to the Kansas City 24. The defense appeared to hold Pittsburgh when Tamba Hali sacked Roethlisberger on third-and-7, but safety Jon McGraw was called for defensive holding to give the Steelers a first down.

Three plays later, Roethlisberger found Saunders in the back of the end zone.

Ryan Succop added a 49-yard field goal later in the second quarter for Kansas City, his second of the game, but Suisham answered with his own 49-yarder on the final play of the first half.

Succop added a 40-yard field goal with 6:11 left in the fourth quarter.

Polamalu left the game in the first quarter when he tackled 290-pound Chiefs offensive tackle Steve Maneri, who had caught a pass in the flat after lining up in the backfield.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year's head hit Maneri's knee and he crumpled to the turf, where he lay while trainers came out to check on him. Polamalu was a bit wobbly when he stood up and the team said he was questionable to return with a "blow to the head."

Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey also left in the first half with an illness.

Roethlisberger showed little evidence of the broken thumb that caused him to be somewhat limited in practice, hitting 10 different receivers. He got some help from Rashard Mendenhall, who ran for 57 yards, and a defense that kept giving the Pittsburgh offense prime field position.

The Steelers squandered a promising opportunity in the first quarter, driving inside the Chiefs 10-yard line. But backup running back Mewelde Moore had the ball poked out by Chiefs linebacker Tamba Hali and it was recovered by Javier Arenas in the end zone for a touchback.

Kansas City gave the ball right back when Palko fumbled the snap moments later.

Pittsburgh also had a decent drive end midway through the scoreless third when Roethlisberger underthrew Antonio Brown down the sideline. Kansas City safety Travis Daniels swooped in to make the interception, but the Chiefs' bumbling offense couldn't capitalize.

That wound up being the story of the game.

The device features an 8MP camera on the back an HD camera on the front, and requires a special tool to remove the battery door? Just like we are unsure of how we feel abou the need for a special tool to pop the battery door off, we are also unsure of pricing and release time frame, but we can sure hope for soon! Dancing With the Stars Winner J.R. Martinez Speaks on a Dream Come True

J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff took home the title on last night's Dancing With the Stars season finale, besting Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke in a nail-biter.

Ricki Lake and Derek Hough came in third after what was a very evenly matched final round. In the end, though, the fan favorite and top dancer took the crown.

"I joked about gluing it on the hood of my car and just driving around L.A.," J.R. said of the Mirror Ball trophy. "Or be like rappers, make a chain out of it and just wear it around! I'm going to cherish this thing every single day!"

J.R. Martinez, Karina Smirnoff PhotoJ.R. and Karina: Dancing With the Stars Winners

Mirror Ball jokes aside, J.R. took a moment to thank his fans, saying, "We just want to thank everyone who voted for us for 10 weeks and believed in us week in and week out! I had no idea what it would feel like and it feels amazing."

Though she says all the finalists were "a team of friends who compete and enjoy the process," Karina admits it was nice to win the competition - her first in 10 seasons.

"To come out on top at the end and to hold [the trophy], it's so beautiful."

J.R., the 28-year-old Iraq War veteran, motivational speaker and soap opera star, partly credits his fellow competitors Rob and Ricki for his big victory.

"Both of them did so well and were so great. It was great that we all progressed because they actually pushed us to be better," said the true class act.

6 dead after plane slams into Arizona mountain

A small aircraft carrying six people, including three children, slammed into the rugged peaks of the Superstition Mountain in Arizona. All aboard are believed to be dead. NBC's Jeff Rossen has more details.

Updated at?12.51 p.m. ET

A small airplane with three men and three young children onboard slammed into a sheer cliff in the mile-high Superstition Mountains east of Phoenix while going around 200 mph, killing all aboard, the Pinal County sheriff said.

The body of one child was recovered and dozens of sheriff's search and rescue personnel worked Thursday to recover the remains of the other victims, said Sheriff Paul Babeu.

A search and rescue team was in the rugged mountains searching for three missing teenagers Wednesday evening and saw the explosion as the twin-engine plane hit the cliff, Babeu said. The searchers found the teens, then went up the mountain to try to reach the crash site.

Ten deputies who spent the night on the mountain were relieved by 10 more early Thursday. They and dozens of volunteers began searching the crash site at first light. Video from news helicopters Thursday morning showed the wreckage strewn at the bottom of a blackened cliff.

The dead included the pilot and his three children, two boys and a girl ages 5 to 9, Babeu said. The father lives in Safford in southeastern Arizona and owned a small aviation business there.

He had flown to the Phoenix suburb of Mesa with another pilot who co-owned the company and a company mechanic to pick up his children for Thanksgiving. The plane was headed back to Safford when it crashed.

Babeu said he personally notified the mother late Wednesday. The woman, who is divorced from the children's father, lives in Mesa and also is a pilot.

Some immediate family members are out of the country, so the names of those involved can't yet be released, Babeu said.

"This is their entire family ? it's terrible," Babeu said. "Our hearts go out to the mom and the (families) of all the crash victims. We have has so many people that are working this day, and we just want to support them and embrace them and try to bring closure to this tragedy."

There was no indication the plane was in distress or that the pilot had radioed controllers about any problem, he said.??

A helicopter searchlight shines over the crash scene in Arizona's Superstition Mountains on Wednesday.

Authorities?received calls reporting a mushroom-like explosion near the peak of a mountain, 40 miles east of downtown Phoenix, at about 6:30 p.m. MST (8:30 p.m. ET).

Some witnesses told Phoenix-area television stations they heard a plane trying to rev its engines to climb higher before apparently hitting the mountains. The elevation is about 5,000 feet at the Superstition Mountains' highest point.

'All of a sudden, it hit'
A joint report by NBC station KPNX and the Arizona Republic quoted Carla Machajewski, of Apache Junction, as saying that she saw two small planes flying around the mountains.

"The one little plane kept going straight and the other one turned and came back and disappeared for a minute. All of a sudden, it hit," she added.

KPHO-TV in Phoenix reported thatit was a Rockwell AC-69 twin engine aircraft Ponderosa Aviation in Safford, according to FAA sources.

The crash was captured on a webcam and posted to the Internet by a YouTube userin Fountain Hills, Az.

The region near Lost Dutchman State Park and the Superstition Wilderness is filled with steep canyons, soaring rocky outcroppings and cactus. Treasure hunters who frequent the area have been looking for the legendary Lost Dutchman mine for more than a century.

Video showed several fires burning on the mountainside, where heavy brush is common.

Flames could still be seen hours after the crash.

Nokia Siemens to lay off 17,000 worldwide

Wireless equipment maker Nokia Siemens Networks will slash 17,000 jobs ? almost one-quarter of its work force ? in a move to cut annual costs by ?1 billion ($1.35 billion) by 2013, company officials said Wednesday.

The joint venture between Finland's Nokia Corp. and Siemens AG of Germany said it would focus on mobile broadband networks and services as it slims down with a view to becoming an independent company.

Nokia Siemens has struggled to make a profit amid stiff competition in the global market for network infrastructure ? the technology and services needed to run mobile and fixed-line networks.

"As we look towards the prospect of an independent future, we need to take action now to improve our profitability and cash generation," CEO Rajeev Suri said Wednesday.

Nokia Siemens in July dropped plans to sell part of its business to private equity firms and said it would take steps to improve its competitiveness as a standalone company.

Market watchers had speculated that Nokia would want to dispose of its ownership in the loss-making venture and focus on developing mobile phones in its new partnership with Microsoft Corp.

Though Nokia is losing market share to rivals, including Samsung and Apple's iPhone, it remains the world's biggest mobile phone maker.

The network joint venture, by contrast, is falling behind its competitors, and has shown annual operating losses since it started operations in April 2007.

Besides traditional competitors such as LM Ericsson of Sweden, Nokia Siemens is now facing strong challenges from Asian rivals such as China's Huawei and ZTE Corp, said analyst Phil Kendall of Strategy Analytics.

"The Chinese have shaken up the operational environment by originally selling cheap hardware and won business that way, but have now built up a credible reputation and become quite competent technology providers," Kendall said. "All of the big traditional Western infrastructure vendors have really had to work hard to fight off the threat."

Last year, Nokia Siemens acquired the majority of Motorola Corp.'s wireless operations for $1.2 billion in a major thrust to gain a stronger foothold worldwide and to gain access to top American wireless carriers and cable companies, including ATT, Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel Corp., which depend on technology provided by infrastructure suppliers.

The layoffs would cut Nokia Siemens' 74,000-strong work force by 23 percent. Suri described the cuts as regrettable but necessary. He didn't specify what kind of jobs would be slashed.

"We will continue to push network outsourcing, we will not focus so much on field maintenance deals," Suri said. "That will allow us to use our global delivery capabilities and do remote management from our centers in India and Portugal and transform those businesses to pick up and make money."

Nokia shares jumped on the news, but closed down 2 percent at ?4.09 ($5.48) on the Helsinki Stock Exchange.

Based in Espoo, near Helsinki, Nokia Siemens has employees in 150 countries.

UK's Hague: Syria to face more pressure (Reuters)

LONDON (Reuters) ? British Foreign Secretary William Hague said on Monday the international community would do as much as it could to turn up the heat on Syria after President Bashar al-Assad said he would not bow to pressure to crack down on protesters.

"We will increase the pressure on the Assad regime. I discussed this with the Secretary of the Arab League yesterday and I believe they will wish to do so at their further meeting tomorrow," he told BBC Radio in an interview.

"The behavior of that regime is appalling and unacceptable and of course we will do what we can to support democracy in Syria in the future."

Hague will meet representatives of various Syrian opposition groups in London later on Monday in an intensification of contacts with opponents of Assad.

"We're not at the point of a formal recognition of them ... partly because there are differing groups; there isn't a single national council as there was in Libya ... and the international community has not yet reached that point."

Hague said the international community had "done a lot" already to ratchet up the pressure on Assad, including imposing sanctions and stopping all of Syria's crude oil exports from entering European Union waters, representing a quarter of the regime's revenues.

"We are working this week on a further round of sanctions which I hope we can agree next week," Hague added.

Dumb GOP Quote Of The Day: President Of UT College Republicans Apologizes For Saying Shooting Obama Is ?Tempting?

Barack Obama and UT College Republicans president Lauren Pierce

We?ll start by stating the obvious: Ho Sit Down!

Lauren Pierce is the current president of the College Republicans at The University of Texas at Austin. The organization has been accused of racism in the past, and doesn?t seem to care about changing this tradition. This week on Twitter, the president said that the idea of assassinating President Obama is ?tempting.? Only in Texas would the idea of killing a black man be so pleasing.

?Y?all as tempting as it may be, don?t shoot Obama. We need him to go down in history as the WORST president we?ve EVER had! #2012.?

Pierce sent her ?enticing? tweet right after a man was arresting for firing shots at President Obama and his family. Pierce may be too young to understand that death threats are very real for President Obama and his family.

Pierce later said that her excitement over someone shooting President Obama was merely a ?joke? and that the ?whole [shooting incident] was stupid.? She then joked even further, saying that shooting President Obama would ?only make the situation worse.?

The group?s Vice President stood by Pierce?s racism, stating that she made a ?positive statement.?

Some other members of the UT College Republicans have called for her resignation. What do you think? Should she take a seat?

Her faulty tweets are below:

Robin Gibb Battling Liver Cancer | PerezHilton.com

robin-gibb-has-liver-cancer.jpg

We are so sad about this.

Legendary singer/songwriter Robin Gibb, of the Bee Gees, has been diagnosed with liver cancer.

A few months back, he was diagnosed with the disease by doctors after being hospitalized for stomach pains. But things have seem to have gotten worse as he was rushed to the hospital earlier this week.

Thankfully, he was discharged five hours later, but that still doesn't stop the concerns.

Since Tuesday, he's canceled several public appearances.

So sad. Robin is in our thoughts and we are praying for him.

Self-help guru gets 2 years in sweat lodge deaths (AP)

PRESCOTT, Ariz. ? A charismatic self-help author was sentenced Friday to two years in prison for leading an Arizona sweat lodge ceremony that was supposed to offer spiritual enlightenment but instead ended with disoriented participants struggling to breathe and being dragged outside. Three people died.

A judge gave James Arthur Ray three, two-year sentences, to be served concurrently, and ordered him to pay more than $57,000 in restitution

"I find that the aggravating circumstance of emotional harm is so strong and such that probation is simply unwarranted in this case," Yavapai County Superior Court Judge Warren Darrow said.

The courtroom was silent as the sentence was handed down. The victims' families held hands, as did Ray's parents and brother.

Afterward authorities immediately took custody of Ray, who will serve his time with the state Department of Corrections. Ray's parents, Joyce and Gordon Ray, said they hoped to get a chance to meet with him briefly after the hearing. They declined to comment further.

Defense attorney Luis Li said an appeal was likely. "We just hope the process of healing can begin and the victims' families can find some peace," he said.

County Attorney Sheila Polk said she was disappointed that the judge didn't give Ray the maximum sentence of nine years in prison. She said she made a strong case for accountability, justice and deterrence ? "all the reasons a more significant prison sentence should have been imposed."

But, Polk added, "certainly some prison over probation is better than no prison at all."

Ray had faced probation to nine years after being convicted on a trio of negligent homicide counts. Authorities originally charged Ray with manslaughter, but jurors rejected arguments that he was reckless in his handling of the October 2009 ceremony.

Prosecutors urged Darrow to hand down the maximum sentence to keep Ray off the self-help circuit and from harming others. Ray's attorneys said probation was best for a man who showed remorse, lacked a prior criminal history and is the sole caretaker for ailing parents.

Earlier Friday, Ray stood before the judge and the victims' families and begged for forgiveness. He said he would have stopped the ceremony had he known people were dying or in distress.

Ray turned to the more than a dozen family members seated in the courtroom, tearfully taking responsibility for the pain and anguish he caused them.

"At the end of the day, I lost three friends, and I lost them on my watch," Ray said. "Whatever errors in judgment or mistakes I have made, I'm going to have to live with those for the rest of my life. I truly understand your disappointment in my actions after, I do. I'm disappointed in myself. I don't have any excuse."

It was the kind of apology that the victims' families say they would have like to receive from Ray immediately following the deaths of Kirby Brown, 38, of Westtown, N.Y.; James Shore, 40, of Milwaukee; and Liz Neuman, 49, of Prior Lake, Minn., more than two years ago.

"There was nothing you could teach Liz, James or Kirby about honor, integrity and impeccability, but they could have taught you a lot," Neuman's cousin Lily Clark said in a raised voice while looking at Ray. "They were born spiritual warriors, and you are not worthy to spit shine their combat boots."

Ray's motivational mantra drew dozens of people to a retreat nestled in the scrub forest near Sedona with a promise that the sweat lodge ceremony typically used by American Indians to cleanse the body would help them break through whatever was holding them back in life. It was the culminating event of his five-day "Spiritual Warrior" seminar.

Participants began showing signs of distress about half way through the two-hour ceremony. By the time it was over, some were vomiting, struggling to breathe and lying lifeless on the ground. Two people ? Brown and Shore ? were pronounced dead. Neuman slipped into a coma and never regained consciousness. She died more than a week later at a Flagstaff hospital.

The trial was a mix of lengthy witness testimony and legal wrangling that lasted four months. Witnesses painted conflicting pictures of Ray, with some describing him as a coach who encouraged participants to do their best to endure the heat but never forced them to remain in the sweat lodge. Others said they learned through breathing exercises, a 36-hour fast, and a game in which Ray portrayed God that they dare not question him and lost the physical and mental ability to care for themselves or others.

Prosecutors contended that Ray ratcheted up the heat to dangerous levels, ignored pleas for help and watched as participants were dragged out of the sweat lodge. Ray's attorneys suggested that toxins or poisons contributed to the deaths, but jurors said that theory was not credible.

Ray's attorneys made at least nine requests for a retrial or mistrial based on what they say were errors by the prosecution. While Darrow ruled that prosecutors broke disclosure rules, he rejected each of the defense requests. The case is bound for appeal.

Sony starts making NEX and SLT cameras again, following Thai floods

DPReview reports that Sony has resumed production of its SLT and NEX cameras, which may include the NEX-7 and A65 cameras, after two of its three main manufacturing plants in Thailand were hit by extreme floods nearly a month ago. The impact was enough to make a sizable dent in the company's financial outlook and force it to establish a new plant further south in the country. There's apparently still no confirmation of when products will start shipping, but as long as the conveyor belts are rolling and people are back in employment, we're not complaining.
