The business nonprofit SCORE will announce today that it will hold workshops this year at the University of Akron.
The new collaboration between the university and the organization will allow SCORE to establish a counseling office at UA?s Taylor Institute for Direct Marketing.
Kathleen Kennedy, executive director of the UA institute and the Suarez Applied Marketing Research Laboratories, said the partnership will support economic growth and provide training to students at the university and to the community at large.
Workshops on tap for the rest of the year include Marketing Techniques for Success, Simple Steps for Growing a Business and Business Basics.
SCORE is made up of 70 veteran area executives and small-business owners who donate their time to help entrepreneurs.
The organization plans to recruit counselors who have experience in direct interactive marketing and marketing research to work on client projects with UA staff and students.
SCORE provides confidential counseling, workshops and mentoring to business startups in Medina, Portage, Wayne and Summit counties.
All SCORE services are free.
Details about the workshops and collaboration between SCORE and UA will be announced at a news conference at 11 a.m. today at UA?s Polsky Building in downtown Akron.
